SLIPKNOT have set July 24th as the release date for their second Roadrunner Records album, rumored to be titled Iowa. The follow-up to the group's 1999 eponymously-titled debut was recorded at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles with producer Ross Robinson and will be mixed starting next week in New York City with veteran producer Andy Wallace.

...

According to various people who have heard parts of the album's rough mixes, a good portion of the material that is set to be included on the CD will be of the over-the-top, ultra-manic nature, with plenty of hyper-fast, “blast” beats and “MORBID ANGEL-like” death metal-style riffing. However, there will also be several musical pieces that cover a similar musical ground to the catchier, hookier songs off the last album, such as “Wait And Bleed” and “Spit It Out”, while the rest is said to follow a more “experimental” direction, albeit done in the usual SLIPKNOT uncompromising style. In particular, the song “People=Shit” is said to be an absolute monster of a track, with its title being repeated over and over again in many different ways, over a variety of riffs, in what is certain to become one of the album's musical highlights.

...

These are the only known song titles so far:

...

“People=Shit”

“The Heretic Song”

“Disaster Piece”

“New Abortion”

...

As previously announced SLIPKNOT will be appearing on the main stage at this year's Ozzfest Festival, which is scheduled to begin on June 8th. A club/theater tour featuring SLIPKNOT, PAPA ROACH, CRAZY TOWN and LINKIN PARK—all Ozzfest main-stage attractions—is in the planning stages for possible gigs during Ozzfest off days.

In other METALLICA-related tidbits, the unofficial NICK CAVE web site The Angel In Devil's Boots has reported a James Hetfield sighting at the NICK CAVE solo show on Monday, March 27th at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. According to the site's webmaster, '...the first musician to arrive was James Hetfield from METALLICA. He went in and headed for a good backstage seat for himself and his date. I asked for a picture, but he just looked at me like he was angry for me asking and walked in.' (source: Inter Sandman)

According to the band, “We feel [the new title] is a little more appropriate considering all the changes that have been going down in the last year”. Subject to Change is due to be released in late July/early August.
